Jorge Masvidal, Kamaru Usman, And The Rest Of UFC 251's Main Card Make Weight - 3 Title Fights OFFICIAL
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN - THE FINAL HURDLES HAVE BEEN CLEARED AND OUR MAIN EVENT IS OFFICIAL! KAMARU USMAN vs JORGE MASVIDAL FOR THE UFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING TOMORROW!
All of the other main card fights were made official this morning, as well - including the other two title bouts (Alexander Volkanovski (c) vs Max Holloway & Petr Yan vs Jose Aldo) on the card - but I don't think we really had much reason to worry about those.
After all, Jose Aldo says the cut to 135lbs is easier than 145lbs, and continues to prove he could make it, so who am I to tell him that sounds like a buncha nonsense?!
Jorge Masvidal, on the other hand, I was admittedly holdin my breath on when it came to the weight cut.
I mean - this dude accepted this fight on six days notice, revealed that he was going to have to cut about 20lbs prior to stepping on the scale this morning....
….and then he STOPPED IN ROME FOR PIZZA on the way to Fight Island!
….but "Gamebred" made it work, and looked to be in tremendous shape while actually weighing in. He was smiling, laughing, and joking around - which is not stuff you usually see outta someone who just endured a brutal cut. I guess the ol' tin foil/towel mummification does wonders….
I believe they'll be facing Usman and Masvidal off in a bit, so that should be electric. I'll update this blog with the video when it happens. Come back in about an hour and it'll be in here.
